Bio
Dr. Stephen Fox knew he would pursue a career in the medical field at a young age—in fact, it was his own family doctor that initially inspired him. Dr. Fox’s memories of his childhood physician helping patients stuck with him throughout his early academic days. Encouraged to pursue medicine by his teachers who recognized his talents in math and science, Dr. Fox knew he was going to be a physician by the time he reached high school and he remained focused on this goal his entire academic career.

In medical school at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Fox became interested in the field of nephrology. The kidney fascinated him due to the physiology and chemistry involved. With Dr. Fox’s strong chemistry background, the match made sense.

Upon graduating with his medical degree, Dr. Fox went on to complete an internship at the Rhode Island Hospital, Brown University Program of Medicine, followed by a residency at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. He completed his Renal Fellowship at the University of California, San Diego, Department of Medicine.

Dr. Fox served his country as a physician in the United States Navy. He worked as an active duty Naval physician for 10 years, serving primarily at the Naval Hospitals in San Diego and Oakland, California. He served as the nephrologist aboard the Navy hospital ship, USNS Mercy, in the Persian Gulf during the first Gulf War. Ultimately, it was the California sunshine and outdoor lifestyle that encouraged Dr. Fox to find a climate similarly suited to the activities he loved to do in his free time—mountain biking, snowboarding, and backpacking.

While Colorado provided the weather and recreation Dr. Fox sought, Pikes Peak Nephrology Associates provided the excellence in patient care and strong reputation he was looking for in a medical practice. He joined the group in 1996.

In his work, Dr. Fox works to treat every patient as he would want his own family to be treated with attentiveness and consideration for individual health and lifestyle.

Dr. Fox considers himself privileged to have a career he loves in which he feels both challenged and fulfilled on a daily basis. He loves that he gets to meet new people and be involved in their health care, making a positive impact on their life. He is encouraging his three boys to pursue a similar career path.
